This academic gown is made of black cotton and has hook-and-eye closures at the center front. Cartridge pleats can be found on the shoulders and across the back and there is an interior label that reads "W. C. Kern & Co., 411 E. 57th St., Chicago, Renting of College Gowns & Caps, A Specialty". The initials M.W.F. which stand for Mabel W. Filkins can be seen under the maker label.
