Description:
This straw wicker hat has a silk ribbon around the base of the crown, silk trim around the brim, and a silk interior lining. During this time period hats were often large and elaborate, featuring many embellishments such as feathers, lace, and artificial flowers. This straw hat was most likely worn outside during the summer months. The straw wicker material would have been very breathable and allowed the wearer to stay cool. The wider brim would have protected her complexion from the sun.
