Description:
This unique hat is made of sealskin and belonged to the mother of the donor. The interior is made of cotton. During this time period hats were normally small and decorated. Due to the simplicity of this hat, it is possible that it was worn for sporting activities. The use of sealskin also suggests that it was made to be worn during the winter months. This hat is an excellent representation of the unique materials used to create hats in the mid 19th century.
