Description:
This red fez is made of felt and has a black tassel on the top. The word Moslem is stitched onto the front of the fez. The Shriners emblem can also be seen on the front. There is an interior stamp from the Henderson-Ames Company of Kalamazoo, Michigan and the fez was stored in a red bag with the same stamp on it. 

This fez would have been worn by a member of the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, also known as the Shriners. The name Moslem is the group that was based out of Detroit, Michigan. The Shriners started in 1870 and act similar to a fraternity, focusing on fun, Masonic principles, and raising money for Shriner's Hospitals.

The Henderson-Ames Company was located in Kalamazoo, Michigan and was founded in 1850 by Frank Henderson. Frank originally sold merchandise such as swords and regalia under his own name. This lasted until he formed a partnership with Theron F. Giddings in 1871. The company was renamed Henderson and Giddings Company but reverted back to Frank Henderson in 1873. Henderson Ames Company was formed in 1893 and kept the name until 1923. It was later bought in 1925 by M.C. Lilley and Company and the name was changed to The Lilley Company. The Moslem Shriners were a group of Shriners located in Detroit, Michigan. The group was founded in 1880.
