Identifier:

Description:
This collection of political yard signs was put together by former U.S. Congressman, Vern Ehlers. Ehlers represented Michigan's 3rd District in the United States House of Representatives from 1993 - 2011. These signs are his personal collections, accumulated over his many years in politics. The signs document candidates at the local, state, and national level. They have a variety of potential uses for both researchers and exhibits. Political yard signs have become a ubiquitous sight in the months leading up to elections, and, until now, they were quite under-represented in the Museum's collections.;These signs were originally collected by U.S. Congressman Vern Ehlers. In 2012, Ehlers donated his personal papers, as well as this collection of yard signs to the archives at his alma mater, Calvin College. The signs are outside the scope of what the Calvin Archives collects, so they were offered to the Grand Rapids Public Museum.
