Grand Rapids Industries, Inc. was formed for the purpose of turning out war production during World War II and was comprised of fifteen leading furniture manufacturers of Grand Rapids, Mich. With the pooled facilities of the 15 plants, the corporation made wings for the CG 4A gliders which transported paratroopers into Normandy and elsewhere and also made wings and tail services for the L-5 Stinson plane. Grand Rapids Industries purchased tools and other equipment from General Aircraft Corporation, South Lowell, Mass., and made two planes. With the manufacture of the Skyfarer plane, Grand Rapids Industries intended to produce them after the war under licenses granted by General Aircraft. Frederick H. Mueller was President and General Manager.
