A mukuk is a simple birchbark container used for holding liquids. This open container is a typical Anishinaabe design, made from a single sheet of birchbark that is folded with the ends secured using string or sinew. When not in use, the ends can be untied and the mukuk stored flat.
The bottom of this mukuk reads “Water cup made by guide Chee Jee, Temagami August 1906". It is from the Central Great Lakes area of northeastern Ontario, Canada.
