Description:

This is a British military gorget engraved with the British Royal Coat of Arms. They were often worn by on-duty officers. A gorget would indicate rank and status, but it was originally a piece of armor to protect the throat. Historically, silver like this was frequently used in trade with Indigenous peoples in the United States.
