Description:
Sligh enlisted in Grand Rapids MI. 9/12/1861 as a Captain of CO. F. 1st Michigan Engineers & Mechanics. He is listed as wounded 10/23/1863 and dies 11/15/1863 of his wounds in Tullahoma TN. He had been on a train that was derailed by Confederate guerrillas and was apparently crushed between cars. His son was Charles Sligh who became well known in the Grand Rapids furniture industry.
