This off-white corset is made of cotton and is boned. It has garters attached to the bottom hem and there are metal grommets down the center back. This corset also has metal closures down the center front and an interior stamp that reads "Made in America, Ferris Bros. Co.". There is also another label from Ferris Bros. Company on the interior.

Ferris Brothers Company (creator) Dorothy Blake (donor) Dorothy Stuart Blake was born July 23, 1889 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She received her A.B. degree from Oberlin College and studied violin there. She obtained her Masters of Arts in Teaching at Harvard and taught Latin in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She collected and distributed to many of her descendants and universities significant Blake family documents. These included personal belongs such as furniture, paintings, and other possessions that she valued. Some of the historical documents she collected are now housed in the Schlesinger Library at Harvard and the Bentley Library at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She passed away in 1977 at the age of 88.
