Designed in the mid 1860s, the Remington Rolling Block became the most popular breech loading single shot rifle in the world. It found popularity among sport shooters, hunters, and militaries alike. This particular example features a unique pattern in the buttstock made using what appear to be tacks or finishing nails. Reportedly this rifle was owned by an Indigenous person but that has not been confirmed. The fore stock on this example has been cut down just in front of the rear barrel band and band spring.
