Description:
In 1984 Fire Chief Robert Veit retired after 40 years of service beginning in 1944. Over his career, Chief Veit was a passionate advocate for preserving the department's history & he routinely collected and stored a wide variety of materials and equipment in the GRFD Headquarters, Station No. 1. The Museum worked with Chief Veit and his successor, Chief Leon Williams to review and collect literally hundreds of interesting and historical firefighting equipment that spanned over a century of public service to the Grand Rapids community.
