Description:
This white vest is made of cotton and features floral embroidery throughout. There are two welt pockets on either side of the waist as well as a jet pocket on the proper left breast. It has seven buttons down the center front and an adjustable strap on the lower back. It was worn by Paul Ennis Church at his wedding in 1849 and his initials can be seen on the exterior of the vest.

Dr. Church was a surgeon serving in the 9th and 12th Michigan Infantry Regiments. He enlisted with the 9th Infantry 11/22/1861 in Marshall Michigan and transferred to the 12th 10/10/1862. He resigned his commission on 7/22/1863.
