Description:
This cream-colored vest is made of cotton and features embroidery and a notched lapel as well as four buttons down the center front. It has two welt pockets on either side of the waist and another on the proper left breast. The interior is lined with white cotton and there is an adjustable strap at the lower back. This vest was worn by James David Robinson to his wedding in 1853.

"When Myra C. Robinson was born in 1861, in Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan, United States, her father, Capt. James D. Robinson, was 37 and her mother, Almera C Church, was 37. She married Wilber Andrew Studley on 17 August 1897, in Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan, United States. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 1 daughter. James D. Robinson was born in 1822 and married Almeria Church in 1853. Together they had three daughters and lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He served during the American Civil War after enlisting in the Union Army on September 9th, 1861 as a 1st Lieutenant of Company C of the 1st Michigan Engineers and Mechanics Regiment. He was promoted to Captain in 1862 and continued to serve until the end of the war when he was mustered out with the veteran troops on September 22nd, 1865. He passed away in 1892.
