This bonnet is made of cotton and has a checked pattern woven into the material. The edges are trimmed in lace and the area where the crown meets the brim is gathered. There is a small drawstring on the interior at the back of the neck that would have allowed the bonnet to be tightened. The large brim would have helped protect from sun exposure. There are ribbons on both the left and right sides that tie underneath the chin to help keep the bonnet in place.
