This cotton bonnet is woven into a checked pattern and has a curtain sewn along the back of the neck to protect the wearer from the sun. The crown of this bonnet is trimmed in lace and has button holes which indicate that it was able to detach from the brim to expose the crown of the head which would have allowed for more ventilation in warm weather. There are ribbons on both the left and right sides that tie underneath the chin to secure the bonnet.
