Description:

This dugout canoe was gifted to Seth T. Robinson when he married Augusta "Gerti" Lewis (Nay-ne-che-ge-zhick) in 1856. It was made and given to Robinson by Lewis' family, who were of the Grand River Ottawa Indian Tribe, with Chief Ne-be-nay-ge-zhick being Lewis' father. After he died in 1893, Robinson's third wife sold the canoe to Frank Ecker of Lowell, Michigan, who later sold it to Benjamin B. Kerekes, the father of the donors.
