Description:
Spinning wheel with the initials "F.W." that stands for Deacon Francis Winkley. Cooperware, and seed packages sold by his shaker community, Canterbury, NH, Shakers, used his initials on some products they sold such as spinning wheels. According to the Museum of Shakers blog, which discusses the rules Shakers have about signing an individual maker's name on a work. Shakers were not allowed to sign anything they made, but if it were for sale outside of their community, they would mark the initials of the office deacons responsible for their community's business.
