This velvet hat features a medallion applique made with metallic thread and beading. It has a unique square brim and was made by L.F. Castle Co. of New York. During this time period hats were smaller and fit closely to the head. Wide-brimmed hats were often only worn during the summer months to protect the wearer from the sun.
