Identifier:

Description:
This brown satin bonnet features lace applique and satin ties.  Middle-class women often owned at least two bonnets: one for warmer weather, usually made of straw, and one for colder weather such as this one. Bonnets for cold weather were usually made of heavier fabric and were often quilted to help keep warm. This bonnet is an excellent example of what style of hat women wore during the winter in the 1850s.
