This bonnet is made of wool and has satin ribbon ties. During the 1880s hats and bonnets were usually very elaborate and displayed decorations such as ribbons, flowers, lace, and feathers. This bonnet was very modest for the time period and was most likely worn during the winter to keep warm. It is an excellent representation of the styles of bonnets worn by women during the late 19th century in the winter.
