Description:
This black straw hat features artificial flowers in yellow, black, and cream. According to museum records, this hat was a merry widow hat from the Gibson Girl era. Merry widow hats became popular in 1907 after the play Die lustige Witwe. The merry widow hat was part of the costume for the main character who was played by Lily Elsie and became a huge fad from 1907 to 1914.
