Developed during the late 1930s the Model 1938 was designed to be a new model of standard short rifle for the Italian military. The Model 1938 was among the last in a long line of Carcano rifles that aw adoption in 1891. The Model 1938 was chambered for the new 7.35x51mm cartridge, later variations would be chambered for the older 6.5x52mm cartridge. The Model 1938 utlizied the same mannlicher style action and loading system of previous carcano rifles. A five round enbloc clip would be inserted into the magazine. After the last round was chambered the clip would fall out of a hole in the bottom of the magazine. The Model 1938 series featured a fixed rear sight rather than the older adjustable rear sight. The TS or “Truppe Speciale” or “Special Troops” carbine were designed for use by support, artillery, engineer, and mountain troops. This example was produced by the FNA Brescia arsenal in Italy in 1940. The fixed rear sight had its caliber marking ground off post service.
