Souvenirs ➔ Official 2000 Election Chad
Identifier:
2001.17.1
Description:
These humorous souvenir bags were created and given away by City Clerk Terri Hegarty after the Grand Rapids voting machiines were cleaned following the election. The election chad was made famous by the mishaps in counting election results in Florida following the 2000 presidential election, which resulted in the defeat of Al Gore by George W. Bush as President of the United States. This souvenir holds some actual chad from Grand Rapids, which was not a part of the controversy. It fits well into the Museum's significant collection of presidential political memorabilia.
