This M95 underwent a conversion from the original military pattern to a sporting/hunting rifle configuration. After the first world war there were millions of surplus arms around. Often these would be sold or transferred to other countries or bought by civilians and gunsmiths to turn into cheaper hunting arms. This example appears to have gone through a conversion by an Austrian gunsmith/proof house as there are proof markings from that period of conversion in the early 1920s. The mannlicher style magazine was replaced with a traditional integrated magazine. These rifles were often time rechambered and rebarreled for a number of calibers, this particular example still appears to be an 8mm caliber. This rifle features very fine checkering on the wrist of the stock as well as a nicely figured forened and a cheek rest in the left side of the buttstock.
