A pair of charro style pants made of black and white herringbone tweed with brown suede. The pants were owned by Francisco Vega of Grand Rapids, Michigan and worn to local Mexican cultural events in the area. These well tailored pants feature the traditional aletón (wing) flap sewn down the sides that has been appliquéd with a scroll pattern called a greca. Another traditional design feature is the longer pant length for riding horses. They have a straight pocket, an interior waistband curtain in a striped cotton, a button fly with hand-sewn button holes and a suede back buckle for adjusting the pants.
In 2023, GRPM acquired the Francisco Miguel Nava Vega Lopez Tapia Archival Collection #246 which documents the life and legacy of Francisco Vega (1922-2021), a leader in the West Michigan Latino community. In 2025, the family donated objects relating to Francisco Vega such as this example. Another part of the donation are papers documenting the political, social and family life of his wife Phylllis Jean Lachland Vega (1923 - 2025) which were added to Archival Collection #246.
