Description:

This poster advertises Anangong Miigaading, the Anishinaabemowin dubbed version of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. The movie was shown at the Grand Rapids Public Museum on May 4th, 2025.

Anangong Miigaading was created to assist with language revitalization efforts in Anisinaabe communities. The traditional language, Anishinaabemowin, has been endangered for some time, exacerbated by government assimilation efforts. The language has been revitalized through non-traditional efforts, taking the lessons from a formal classroom and reinforcing the language within the community through pop culture. The movie was a creative partnership between the Dakota Ojibway Tribal Council (DOTC), the University of Manitoba (UM), Disney/Lucasfilm, and APTN. Anangong Miigaading premiered in Winnipeg, Canada, in August, 2024.
