Thomas J. DeYoung (donor) Thomas J. DeYoung studied music at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and later taught school in Wyoming, Michigan. During the Vietnam War, he did two tours with the United States Army and was awarded a Purple Heart before retiring as a major. From 1967 to 1968 he served in the Bravo Company (2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division). He later became the rector of St. Adalbert's in Grand Rapids.
