The Herschell-Spillman Company was founded around 1903 by Allan Herschell and his in-laws, the Spillmans, and specialized in creating and carving traditional-style carousels before branching out to menagerie carousels. In 1913, Herschell left the company due to health reasons but after recovering, began his own company, the Allan Herschell Company, in 1915 as a competitor to Herschell-Spillman. To avoid confusion, the Herschell-Spillman Company changed its name to the Spillman Engineering Company and operated until 1945 when it was purchased by the Allan Herschell Company.  Frank Guinan (donor)
