This Marksmanship badge is a sharpshooter carbine badge and was awarded to Grand Rapids resident Private Kenneth Veneklasen who served in the 82nd Airborne Division in the United States Army during World War II. It was displayed in a shadow box with other medals awarded to Veneklasen for his military service.The Marksmanship badge was awarded to individuals in the United States Army that qualified at either expert, sharpshooter, or marksman in a specific weapon. Those weapons include rifle, pistol, aa artillery, auto rifle, machinegun, field artillery, tank weapons, flamethrower, submachine gun, rocket launcher, grenade, carbine, recoilless rifle, mortar, bayonet, small-bore rifle, small-bore pistol, missile, and aero weapons.

He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and also invaded the Netherlands in a Grand Rapids-built glider. Veneklasen also liberated the Wöbbelin Concentration Camp near the city of Ludwigslust in 1945.
