E. D. Selchow And Company, Publishers (creator) Mrs. Mary Joass (donor) Mary Widdicomb Joass was born in Grand Rapids on September 24, 1872. Her family had established the Widdicomb Furniture Company in 1858, which later became Widdicomb Brothers and Richards, among its other entities. The Widdicomb Company went out of business in 2002, although Widdicomb designs are still manufactured under the Gustav Stickley Company, which acquired those rights in 2002.
Mary Widdicomb married John Joass in 1914. She passed away in Grand Rapids in 1944. The GRPM has a handwritten genealogy of her family's history, starting with the birth of her great grandfather Billius Stocking, who was born in 1779.
