Description:
This digital photograph depicts Joseph Pirok in his shoe repair shop located at 220 Division Ave. S. in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Born in Tomaszów Lubelski, Poland, Pirok emigrated to the United States around 1912 and settled in Grand Rapids by 1920. He was the great-grandfather of the donor.

Joseph Pirok (Josef Pirog) was born in 1889 in Tomaszów Lubelski, Poland, and emigrated to the United States around 1912. By 1920 he had settled in Grand Rapids, Michigan with his wife Celia Papke Pirok and children Olga and Nicholas. They had another son, Boris, in 1924. Joseph worked in Grand Rapids as a shoe repairer and had his own shop at 220 Division Ave. S. from 1937 until his death in 1953.
