Description:
This doll is made of leather with glass and shell beads. The provenance dates back to 1832, according to the donor's family history. Henry Rogers, the donor's great grandfather, was the owner of the doll. According to his family, he was captured by the Sioux as a young man. When he left the tribe in 1832, a young girl gave him the doll and it served as a safe passage through Sioux territory. This doll features traditional Sioux design features and is made of leather hide, and beads that are characteristic of tribal dolls during this period.
