From the Yao Mien or Mian minority in the Yunnan Province. The Yao are a fairly large minority that primarily live in the mountains of southern China, but are also found in Northern Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. They have traditionally engaged in farming and forestry.Traditionally-dressed Yao men wear a tunic jacket and loose trousers and black embroidered caps similar in appearance to skull caps worn by some Muslims.
