This t-shirt honors "Big Sid", a 20-foot long, 140-pound python that escaped from a traveling circus at a farm in the Walker area (just west of Grand Rapids). For weeks the community was concerned about the snake and was urged to keep children and pets inside for fear they would be eaten.A month-long search by police and volunteers for the python resulted in his capture on Maynard Avenue near Lake Michigan Drive. This t-shirt is part of the Grand Rapids Public Museum's Souvenir Collection, helping to tell a fascinating local story that captured the attention of the nation and is still talked about today.
