Description:
Complete WWI men's Cavalry khaki green utility riding uniform worn by Grand Rapids resident George M. Chapman. Uniform includes the following pieces, a) long sleeve, button front jacket, b) adjustable white cotton collar, c) 1 pair Khaki gaitors, d) adjustable white cotton collar, e) 1 dark green felt hat, f) 1 pair hard brown leather puttees (shin guards), g) 1 pair leather and metal spurs, h) 1 metal helmet, i) 1 set of metal dog tags on ribbon, j) 3 sew on rank patches, k) 2 spare buttons.;This is a very complete & well documented collection of clothing, photos, and accessories from a local man in WWI. Parts will be used in V is for Veterans.;George M. Chapman was a Grand Rapids resident. He was a member of the 14th Calvary which originated in Grand Rapids before WWI. Chapman used these items while serving at Fort Sam Houston in Texas from 1917-1919. Possible inconsistency regarding 4 striped found on sleeve of jacket. These indicate overseas service but information provided by donor does not indicate evidence of this.
