Gloves, Pair, Tan Leather

Identifier:
136789
Description:
White kid gloves. Kid leather and lace. Four buttons. Kid leather refers to leather made from young goats, or kids. These gloves were some of the softest gloves available at the time, and less likely to cause smudging on things like silverware. This made them perfect for use by domestic house servants and museum artifact handlers. Thus kid leather gloves came to be associated with both artistocracy and museums, both would use the gloves to handle very delicate and important objects. This is wear the phrase "handle with kid gloves" originates.
