Description:
This black dress sometimes referred to a flapper dress, is made of crepe and is heavily decorated with beading. It has a round neckline and no sleeves. It also has a dropped waist and a tunic style skirt. There is an interior label that reads "Paris 'From the House of France' Montreal, Adair, London, New York". Features that are indicative of this time period are the tubular silhouette, the dropped waist, the short hem, and the beading.
The Roaring Twenties, as the 1920s decade was nicknamed, was the era of the flapper. The flapper was a young and rebellious woman who's favorite past time was dancing the Charleston and the Shimmy to popular jazz music. Featuring heavy beading and embroidery, this dress would have been a fashionable evening gown at the time and a stark contrast from the long, frilly and feminine hourglass-shaped dresses worn by previous generations of women.
