Electric motor or generator in stained pine box. This motor is related to the Grand Rapids Couple Gear Co.'s Gas Electric Chassis.;This motor or generator is part of a larger collection of items that document the history of several Grand Rapids-based individuals, Karsten Knudsen and Leroy Knudsen, who invented, patented and manufactured couple gears, brake systems, axles, and wheel drive systems and roller bearings for tractors, trucks and fire trucks between at least 1904-1918. These items were manufactured by a number of locally based and closely related companies including the Grand Rapids Couple Gear co., Holston Motor Parts Ltd, Couple-Gear Freight Wheel Co., Quick Action Chuch Co., and Chuck Balance Gear Co.
