Hollowed gourd with holes covering the bottom half. Across the middle and the top are two carved lines.;This is most likely a kava strainer. Kava (or 'ava) is a drink made from the kava root, which has several medicinal and mild psychoactive properties. It remains important in ritual and societal life in many Pacific cultures, including the Samoan Islands. Strainers are used to separate the final liquid from the pounded root and other remains, before drinking. Identified by Carol S.
