This World War I propaganda poster illustrated by Henry Raleigh depicts a shirtless man, carrying a wounded soldier. The caption at the bottom of the poster reads:
"Blood or Bread
Others are giving their blood
You will shorten the war-
save life if you eat only what
you need and waste nothing"
This poster was commissioned and reproduced as a lithographic print by the United States Food Administration and it encouraged Americans on the homefront to conserve and ration food resources during the war.
