Description:
This velvet toque features ostrich feathers and a silk interior lining. It was made by Denison Co. of Grand Rapids, Michigan. The toque hat, which is a fashionable hat with little to no brim, became quite popular during this time period. Toques were not as elaborate as the large hats of the early 1900s however they often featured embellishments such as embroidery and broaches. This style of hat was meant to draw attention away from the hat and onto other areas such as a woman's clothing or figure.
