Black History ➔ Yard Sign

This yard sign reads "Black Lives Matter" and supports the Black Lives Matter movement that began in 2012 after George Zimmerman was acquitted in the killing of Trayvon Martin. The movement resurged after the murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer on May 25th, 2020. In response to Floyd's death, protests took place nationally and internationally in support of the movement.

This yard sign was purchased by Grand Rapids residents Alex and Hanna Tuzzolino after an individual stole theirs off of their lawn. Instead of being discouraged by the theft, they proceeded to purchase an additional 280 signs from a Black-owned business to show their support. The couple handed out the remaining signs to anyone who wanted to show their support from home.
