Description:
Tektites are specimens composed of glass that form from terrestrial debris during meteorite impacts. The name comes from the Greek word "tektos" which means "molten". They are thought to form during meteorite impacts when pieces of rock are ejected or flung up into the atmosphere and then fall back to Earth. They are often the size of a walnut but can range from the size of a sand grain to weighing 28 pounds.
