DescriptionChester F. Idema (1886-1978), eldest son of Henry and Johanna (Doornink) Idema, was a 1909 graduate of the University of Michigan, enlisted and served during WW I. Chester was employed by Old Kent Bank as the Vice President in charge of the Old National office, retiring at age 65. Chester Idema and Marion Mead (1891-1957) were married in 1913 and lived at 29 Gay S.E. where they raised three sons; Chester F., Jr (1914-1999), James M. (1920-2007), and David G. (1922-1993). 1. Chester F. Idema , Jr. and Elizabeth J. Dalrymple (1917-1983) were married in 1937. Chester worked for the Michigan Trust Co. 2. James M. Idema and Frances Pyle (1921-1976) were married in 1943. A graduate of Dartmouth College, James served in the US Navy Naval Air Corp during WWII. After the war, James worked for "The Grand Rapids Herald", "The Denver Post", "The Newark Evening News", "America Illustrated", and in Chicago as a freelance writer. James was also Administrative Assistant to Colorado Senator Floyd Haskell. 3. David G. Idema and Josephine Whims (1924-1977) were married in 1947. David attended University of Michigan prior to enlisting in the US Army in 1942. David worked in various executive positions for several companies such as the C.C. Wortman Co., Lichter Rubber Products, Time-Life Broadcast, and West Michigan Telecasters. David was a member of the Board of The Grand Rapids Symphony Society and was one of the founders of the Grand Rapids Symphony Chorus, serving as its first president.
